Managed disks are typically billed pro-rata by time used, even when official Azure calculators show monthly disk prices.
The pricing calculator includes a student VM size slider. By default it uses Standard_D2s_v5 (2 vCPUs, 8 GB RAM), which is typically enough for regular use (e.g. Office, R Studio, VS Code).
Please note the indicative costs per exam seat include the base monthly costs for the infrastructure and maintained exam images.
